The Mechanic Movie Review

The hubby and I watched the movie “The Mechanic” last night at SM North EDSA.

The movie was good though the cinema experience was another story, hmph.

I am not really a fan of action movies because the sound of punches, kicks and head butts on another body makes me cringe. The Mechanic had all those and then some. To my surprise, though I tend to get hyped up with the action scenes, I enjoyed the movie.

Imagine glasses shattering, furniture being destroyed, cars blowing up, fire power on display, going down buildings while being shot at and a platoon of bodyguards for the mean man in the movie. I missed car chases showing gadgets like gps or best radar detector 2010 on the dashboard scenes though.  The movie has these and more.

I can’t really put a finger on how and why I did but thinking about it made me realize that:

  • Jason Statham is a convincing “mechanic” because he is methodical, low-profile and quiet.
  • Ben Foster, as his apprentice who is incidentally the son of the mentor he killed is one who likes to put on a show during jobs he needs to get done. I wanted to say out loud, “don’t get him involved, grrr!” LOL

Though the ending was something I anticipated, the way it was executed came as a surprise to me.

I Googled the movie and found out there was an earlier movie like this with Charles Bronson and Jan-Michael Vincent. Hmmm… I hope we would be able to find this and watch it too 😀

Scene from 2010 Christmas Day

Been looking through the many photos in my files before I put them in my online data storage and back-up hard drive. Hubby still has to do the copying of these photos to CDs.

One of the photos that captured my attention was this “stolen shot” photo of my hubby and our two younger kids in hubby’s family living room during Christmas. The camera was positioned behind a wine glass on display, hence the slightly blurred photo. I blurred their faces a bit too.

Christmas

I know, it is a lovely Christmas setting, isn’t it? 😉

The accent table in the middle has several decorative Christmas things on top of it. These have to be removed however when family members gather for lunches and/or dinner since the kids love to sit in the living room and eat there. Plates and glasses are placed on this table for the children while they eat sitting on big pillows on the floor. A special cocktail table holds the desserts in the dining room next to the dining table. This is where the children go to pick the sweets they like.

I would love to have accent tables like that in our living room but since I use the space there to do my hooping, I guess we would have to wait till I clear the room at the back of the house for that. As it is, the sofa set in our living room is pushed back against the walls while another table went that way too.

Would have loved to have a stylish living room but the children are ecstatic since they use the space to play with their toy cars.

*Stolen shot* means photo taken of persons without their consent or them knowing it.

On Celebrating Birthdays

Birthdays are special days. Children celebrating their birthdays are usually given parties. At age 1, 7 and 18, they have grand celebrations. Well, usually though there are those who celebrate in a grand way year after year.

We don’t celebrate our children’s birthday in a grand way. We don’t even have halloween costumes since they don’t really participate much during Trick or Treat.

I hope the children will not get back at me when they are grownup for not having big grand parties for them during their birthdays 😛

We usually celebrate by offering and going to mass and a quiet dinner at the restaurant of their choice.  And if the gift they like is within the budget then “why not?”

Ika-8 Kaarawan ni Bunso

Ang cake ni Bunso sa kanyang ika-8 kaarawan.

BIrthday

Bird Watching

Someone said she wants to have that binoculars soon. So I’m scouring the web if we will get a toy binocular or a real like ncstar or that one we saw that functions as a camera.

Why? Because the weather bureau said we are having a short and wet summer and she can’t go swimming and play golf in the backyard 😀

When I asked what she would like to see using a binoculars, she said “birds” from the trees beside the house.
