So the late Weekly Question is about food. Yes…. food.

What is your comfort food during the rainy season?

My answer:

Rainy season = cold, cold days and teeth-chattering chilly nights.

Having  a bowl of hot soup after being out in the rain never fails to win me over. Sinigang, nilaga, or even creamy soup are all welcome

Coffee? Well, yes, the aroma alone makes me feel homey and I would rather go back to bed than wake up and go to work, lol!

What warm food do you like to have during rainy days?

With the swine flu cases escalating and people being afraid to do the things they usually do, what precautions do you do to protect yourself and your family?

My answer:

For now, we are staying clear from closed air conditioned spaces which can be a breeding ground for bacteria and viruses.

I know I am a bit overacting when it comes to getting the kids free from diseases. Having one sick kid means two other will follow suit so w e really try our best to not get sick, if its possible.

We have alcohol and wipes everywhere. In my bag, their bags, in the car, in the kitchen and even near the dining table.

Now that they are vacationing with my MIL down south, the sms I always send them have “take your food supplements, sleep early, always wash you hands”

Patience is a virtue, so they say.

Patience is what distinguishes a person who is broadminded and understanding, according to someone who defined patience.

Are you a patient person? Has your patience been tested a lot of times? What have you done about it?

My answer:

I will be focusing my line of work, which is teaching special needs children.

With the children I work with, I am very, very patient with them.

I also try to be very patient and understanding when it comes to their parents but that goes without saying that there are times when I get very frustrated with their parents, and sometimes how they deal with the different intervention decisions that they make without consulting those who work with them.

Of course, I know it’s their prerogative since they are the ones financing these things but somehow, the objectives that have been set and being worked on are ignored because of these decisions.

My patience regarding my workplace has reached its end, I must say. I have tried to be patient with the way they deal with things, but last week, I had to stop stressing myself too much with these and decided to cut my ties with them.

It hurts me more to leave the children I have worked with for almost three years, not that all of them have been with me that long. Most of these kids have been with me for two years and I love them dearly.

Assessing my situation, I had to decide to choose loving myself first, even if I love my job, before I lost the little self-respect I have left for myself in that place because of the way things happened.

For now, I am taking things slowly, feeling my way one step at a time and weighing my priorities

As I have said in one of the previous WQ, I am ready to reinvent myself and that what happened last week was the first step, though it took a while for me to do it, but at least I did!

Ask the children and young people of today  if they know the significance of this special day and chances are, most of them don’t know what it is and why it is being celebrated. They just wave their coconut palms and get in line to be able to have the Holy Water hit their bodies.

People in the not-so-distant past have been so religiously attentive to these church celebrations, in contrast to how people are these days. And if those who belong to the older generation are gone, would these traditions still continue?

For those who are non-Catholics, they have their own versions of celebrating the Palm Sunday and one of these would be through prayers.

How did you spend Palm Sunday and what were your thoughts during that day?

My answer:

Palm Sunday was spent online in the morning and a little after lunch. I was able to amuse myself with Plurking, communicating with real-life and virtual friends through the net while waiting for hubby who went somewhere to do some damage-repair to a very big problem that came up last Friday.

Palm Sunday was spent getting worried and thinking deep thoughts and I can swear I can actually feel white hairs springing on my head and fine lines slowly creating creases on my face.

Palm Sunday was spent going through mazes of problems in my head that just thinking about these made me feel dizzy and disoriented through a lot of blind spots and yet I find my way back to where I started.

I know I have said that we have to be positve and learn to move forward but I also believe that we also have to learn to do introspection, mulling things over to know what could be done to achieve what needs to be done

I am by the way, talking in circles here but I am really hoping that everything will go well soon or I might go nuts and I am not kidding

UPDATE: The post above was written Sunday morning while I was Plurking.

Anyway…

The priest mentioned the noted difference in the number of the crowd during mass yesterday. He said something like during the church’s special occasions, the attendance doubles and he just hopes that the people did not just go to church so that they can have their palm fronds (palaspas) blessed so that they have something to put in their homes.

Kinda harsh but this is true and I think it just happens during opportunities of getting more blessings, and not really as a way to celebrate Jesus’ truimphant entry to Jerusalem which start the commemoration of the Holy Week. Ordinary Sundays yield few people.

Why am I talking about ice cream? Because its summer!

So now I ask, “What is your favorite ice cream flavor or ice cream concoction?

My answer:

I love ice cream, no doubt about it.

With the “sorbetes” I usually go for the cheese flavor and mango flavors.

When I was younger, I remember my mother buying the Popsicle and pinipig crunch for me from the ice cream vendor with a big “refrigerated ice cream cart”.

I like ice cream with a little crunch like chocolate chips though not much with the peanuts.

I like those with coffee and chocolate flavors too but not much with fruit flavors like halo-halo or macapuno.
