November 2009 Blog Blast for Peace

In an ideal world, the conditions of poverty, social injustice, inequality, environmental degradation, and the weak do not exist.

Alas, we do not live in an ideal world but in a real and dynamic one where all these things, and more, exist.

We may not have time to pause and ponder on these issues while we go about minding our own business.

We may think we live in peaceful existence when we are not bombarded with these issues. Do we?

We can not carry and fathom all the world’s troubles and everyone’s worries but initiating positive changes, even when taken in small steps, can go along way.

My idea of peace, as I have written before, still stands true for me:

No matter what we do, we can not live in isolation and we are not immune to the ills of the world.

Oppression. Killing. Famine. War. Terrorism. Environmental destruction. Natural disaster. Even family matters that seem trivial, all these and more, cause disturbance of peace.

Through it all, maybe peace is a mindset, a lifestyle and a kind of wishful thinking. With all the negative things happening, can one really have a peaceful mindset?

For me, writing about peace is just one step in achieving it because even if one writes about peace but does not live it, then the effort would be futile.

Words are wonderful but actions are more than so.

How Do You Pursue Peace?

I joined the November 6, 2008 Blog Blast for Peace. I was late but still, better late than very late, I mean, never.

My focus for this round of peace talks, I mean, blog posts about PEACE was about pursuing peace. Here is a part of my entry:

We pursue peace not by waging a war but through communication and laying out all the cards on the table. We pursue peace through compromise and understanding.

We pursue peace not by stockpiling arms and weapons but by building communities that will help each other, where people can live harmoniously. We help ourselves and other people be self-sufficient enough to live comfortably. We help each other have peace when we foster cooperation.

The Weekly Question would be about the last question that I have written in my November 2008 Dona Nobis Pacem post:

How do you pursue peace in your life?

My answer:

Pursuing Peace

I have joined Blog Blast for Peace last June 4, 2008. This was my post.

Below is an excerpt from that post:

Oppression. Killing. Famine. War. Terrorism. Environmental destruction. Natural disaster. Even family matters that seem trivial, all these and more, cause disturbance of peace. Through it all, maybe peace is a mindset, a lifestyle and a kind of wishful thinking. With all the negative things happening, can one really have a peaceful mindset?

I have again joined (even if I am late, again!) the November 6, 2008 Blog Blast for Peace hosted by Mimi Lenox.

The Bible is one of the best books to read about peace. It may have events where peoples and nations fought against each other, it is still full of hope, faith, love and peace.

Psalms 34:14 says “Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.”

Pursue? Yes, we pursue peace, not through war but through peaceful means.

Last June, there was a Revolution of Words. This November 6, there is another round for the Blog Blast for Peace.

Here is a part of my entry for the June event:

Peace is a rare commodity. Its a commodity because it is expensive. Billions are spent to curtail war, to stop terrorism, to have peace. But with all the families broken, the souls destroyed, antiquities forever gone, do we even say that peace has been achieved? Are we even happy with the way things turned out? Can we truly say that we feel safe and secured? Can we really say that justice has been served or is being served or will be served to those who truly deserve it?

This November 6, join the bloggers who will once again be one in writing about PEACE.

For me, writing about peace is just one step in achieving it because even if one writes about peace but does not live it, then the effort would be futile.

Words are wonderful but actions are more than so.
