The hubby and I watched the movie “The Mechanic” last night at SM North EDSA.
The movie was good though the cinema experience was another story, hmph.
I am not really a fan of action movies because the sound of punches, kicks and head butts on another body makes me cringe. The Mechanic had all those and then some. To my surprise, though I tend to get hyped up with the action scenes, I enjoyed the movie.
Imagine glasses shattering, furniture being destroyed, cars blowing up, fire power on display, going down buildings while being shot at and a platoon of bodyguards for the mean man in the movie. I missed car chases showing gadgets like gps or best radar detector 2010 on the dashboard scenes though. The movie has these and more.
I can’t really put a finger on how and why I did but thinking about it made me realize that:
- Jason Statham is a convincing “mechanic” because he is methodical, low-profile and quiet.
- Ben Foster, as his apprentice who is incidentally the son of the mentor he killed is one who likes to put on a show during jobs he needs to get done. I wanted to say out loud, “don’t get him involved, grrr!” LOL
Though the ending was something I anticipated, the way it was executed came as a surprise to me.
I Googled the movie and found out there was an earlier movie like this with Charles Bronson and Jan-Michael Vincent. Hmmm… I hope we would be able to find this and watch it too 😀
