SCTEx

What is SCTEx?

SCTEx is this: Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway which runs from Tarlac up to Subic or SBMA and back of course.

Well paved roads. Lush green country side. Peaceful ride. Almost isolated expressway (for now I guess) where thinking about having an engine trouble is not an option. Sure, one needs to pay extra (we paid Php112.00) and travel extra kilometers from the usual route but that would not matter because travel is really pleasant.

No need to navigate through road with vehicular and foot traffic. I shudder to think about the trees and the mountains that they have to cut in half just to make this happen.

Traveling at night it was a different story. We traveled through a heavy downpour. Zero visibility. Fog was thick. It was eerie but it was still fun. The photo above was taken as we were approaching Clark, hence lights on the road.

The Evening Darkens Over

The Evening Darkens Over
a poem by Robert Bridges

img_0695b.jpg

The evening darkens over
After a day so bright,
The windcapt waves discover
That wild will be the night.
There’s sound of distant thunder.

The latest sea-birds hover
Along the cliff’s sheer height;
As in the memory wander
Last flutterings of delight,
White wings lost on the white.

There’s not a ship in sight;
And as the sun goes under,
Thick clouds conspire to cover
The moon that should rise yonder.
Thou art alone, fond lover

Paper Boxes

Paper boxes anyone? Paper boxes are great for organizing knick-knacks around the house or in an office, just label the boxes according to what’s inside and one would not have a hard time looking for what is needed. These can come handy too for gifts, just add a big ribbon or glue some embellishments and a card.

Great for a business venture too.

No, they don’t know I am blogging about them.

Do You Have a Green Bag?

A belatedly purchased green bag was what we got when we went to SM Clark’s Hypermarket last Sunday . No, did not think twice about getting the bag even if there a big logo of Unilever Philippines on it as a way of advertising their company without paying millions since these bags were being sold and/or given for free when their products are purchased by SM Advantage card members which I am not. Anyway…

There have been many news/press releases about using these cloth bags, not necessarily the one I purchased, as an alternative to the use of plastic bags. Sure, the plastic bags can be recycled primarily to be used as garbage containers. But what happens after the garbage has been collected is more often than not, are not the people’s real concern anymore.

The use of green bags has many benefits. Click here to read more about the benefits, not just as an alternative use to plastic bags but as an answer to vital environmental issues. But then again, these are one and the same.

This practice of using the plastic bag has to change. In Baguio City, they are encouraging people to use the “bayong” or a woven buri bag to be used when going to the market. This bayong is handy even if produce from the wet section are purchased. There is an “I am not plastic” bag here in the Philippines that is earth-friendly that can be used too, to minimize the use of plastic. Even specialty stores has dropped the use of plastic bags by using recycled paper on their paper bags.
