Captured Moments

Been looking through my photo archives the past few days. One was to look for a baptism photo of our youngest child for a school project. The other was for choosing files to be uploaded in an online server. Reason for this was so I can get my photos anytime and anywhere I need to go online even without using my personal laptop with me.

It seems to me, as I travel through the past via the photos that there are very few photos with me in it. Not because I don’t want to be captured because I need effective diet pills to trim down but because I’m always the one “capturing the memories.

For me, photos are not just there to prove one has been to a certain place or has met an interesting person or has eaten a certain dish with the photos to prove a point. For me, taking photos is a way to “freeze” time and to capture a fleeting moment: be it a warm smile, an elusive butterfly or a lovely sunset sky.

I don’t care if others tell me I have more photos of flowers and the sky than of people standing in line for a photo opp. I kid you not, someone told me that.

One of the movies that touched my heart is “The Lovely Bones” where Susie, the lead character said:

“I had rescued the moment by using my camera and in that way had found how to stop time and hold it. No one could take that image away from me because I owned it.”
— Alice Sebold (The Lovely Bones)

Do you love taking photos?

Secret Blog

I’ve recently started a new blog but that is still a “secret” blog for now because I plan to put some posts first before I make it public.Yes, I’m announcing I have a secret blog, toinks!

I’ve been debating with myself whether it is going to be a beauty products related blog for which I still have a lot to learn more. I’m not that big on buying beauty products for my needs are simple (read: I’m not high maintenance when it comes to this aspect) enough.

The blog topic I chose was therefore not that topic above. I know my topic of choice is one that many has for their blogs and I may stand a chance at writing posts that are at par with those I consider great among the lot but hey, we can’t know until we try, right?

I hope I don’t eat my words when I’ll say I would try to better this skill  😉

After the Binging

The season of eating, shopping and excesses Christmas is here again!

After the holidays, people troop to the drug stores to buy over the counter medicine for LBM. They also buy diet pills that work because after all the happenings, they intend to lose weight for the new year. Wait, I think I’ve heard this before 😉

Of course being the practical slash saver slash kuripot *me is having another round of Frugal Christmas. It does me good, this frugal Christmas thing because it gives me a chance to learn how to bake goodies and my kids are happy too.

*kuripot = miser

Juvenile Plans

I started paying for two juvenile plans almost nine years ago. At first I was unsure if I can afford getting two. But the insurance quotes my agent gave me seemed reasonable.

Nine years after, saving up for the quarterly premium payment has not been a problem with me, save for some times when I have to forego purchasing anything big to save up on the payment.

It feels like saving for something big. I just hope nothing bad will happen to the company before the children reach the age 21 😀

Sherlock BBC Series

I just watched the first two episodes of Sherlock, BBC’s TV Series.

I love its fast-paced and modern setting, though of course I would miss the “grayness” of the older version where hansoms ply London’s streets and where Holmes’ clients wear those gentlemen finery. Dr. John H. Watson’s character in the series is young though of course, I “see” him as rather older.

One of the quotes I love in the first episode is: “Anderson, don’t talk, you lower the  IQ of the whole block.” *insert guffaws here*

Holmes is really a brilliant character and he would probably not last long in banking jobs because his wit and humor would turn people off. Imagine coming to him at a teller and he would say “You are going through a rough time with your work. You probably are looking for another one where you find less stress. You need to update your wardrobe but is confused as to what kind of fashion statement you must heed.”

Am not a Sherlock Holmes fan. No. I just read the two volumes of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle‘s books. Twice. Thrice. 😉
