When Doctors Get Sick

It feels odd when doctors, especially your own personal doctors, get sick. Been reading about the article “When the Doctor’s Wide Has Cancer” and this reminded me of my ob-gyn who had a bout with breast cancer herself. She was not there for the first few monthly check-ups I had for my son because she was undergoing treatment for her cancer.

Imagine doctors who give tips on colon cleanse that works getting colon cancer, or like my ob-gyn who teaches her patients about breast cancer gets that condition herself.

Nobody wants to get sick especially those conditions that are not easy to handle.

Like a doctor friend once told us, she doesn’t want any of us in her clinic consulting on her specialization: conditions pertaining to blood diseases, because that means we are going through something she doesn’t like us to undergo.

Napping

I love to take naps. Sometimes my naps even extend way beyond the usual half hour or hour nap. I don’t think I need insomnia treatment just yet but in the future maybe I will.

I sleep late, much as I really want to do so other wise. I have to wait up for the hubby to arrive from work. Then I need to wake up super early at 4am to cook packed lunch for my children who are fetched by the school service at 5:30am. Yeah, my grade school children have to do that so it’s really a TGIF for them.

How do I manage to go through the day with so little sleep? As I’ve written above, I take naps. If it is impossible for me to do take naps, I try to move as little as possible to not zap my energy level.

And I take little nibbles here and there. I know, I tsk, tsk too to myself.

Healthier You

A friend is veering away from smoking after being advised by her doctor to do so when she was given cotinine test. She is rather unwell it seems and needs to overhaul her lifestyle by adapting a healthier one.

So far, she is on her way to almost two weeks with smoking, has eaten more fruits, vegetables and fish and is drinking more fresh fruits and milk rather than soda.

I often wonder why it is that some people, it takes them a realization such as this one to veer away from things , or vices that make them unhealthy. Instead of spending on things that make them healthy, they spend more on things like hospitalization and medicine, which should not have been the case if only they have a healthier lifestyle.

Looking For Lost Sleeping Hours

Been under the weather these past few days. First it was the hubby who had a relapse of his cough. Then I got some aches and pains myself. Just when I thought my work schedule would be back to normal this week, my son came home the other day looking like he has a big candy in his mouth. He doesn’t.

Emergency trip to the dentist prompted a tooth extraction and he had to miss school today to rest.

I just want to crawl back to bed and just sleep until I can’t sleep no more. My eye bags have eye bags and I seriously need anti wrinkle eye cream. Seriously. That and a dose of iron supplements.

I can’t wait for Christmas break and not wake up at an ungodly hour of 4:15am to cook lunch to be packed for my children. They themselves need to wake up around 5am in time for the school service which arrives at 5:30am.

Sleep! where art thou?

Kicking the Habit

It has been almost six years ago when my father got severely sick and we thought he would be succumb to the illness that befell him.

One of the things he had to forgo to become better was his cigarette smoking habit and that includes cigar auctions even if this is for business purposes. He doesn’t want to be tempted 😀

He had to take a lot of supplements, including iron. He also had to sleep better. There was one thing though that he didn’t give up: drinking Coke 😀

Now he is healthy and gained weight too. I hope he gets to enjoy life more with my mother.
