Pula = Katapangan

The theme for this week’s Litratong Pinoy is RED.

There are so many interpretations for the color red:  love, hatred, blood, bravery and prosperity. It may also symbolize energy, communism, heat and arrogance. Some even say that red is the color of the devil.

For me, red for bravery is what we need right now. We need this not because we have to battle foreign oppressors like our ancestors but to battle the many hardships we are currently experiencing: financial crisis, lack of political trust and just about any daily struggles that should have been easy but tend to be otherwise.

The Gift

One of my favorite songs is “The Gift” by Jim Brickman.

For me, the most important gifts we can ever receive in our whole lifetime is LIFE and LOVE. LIFE because we exist and we enjoy God’s blessings as well as trials. LOVE because if we love God and the people around us everything will fall into place.

Family. Isn’t it that they mean everything to us and we give them our love?

Pamilya.

Thinking of a photo that will go with this week’s theme was very difficult for me.

First because there was no photo in our archives depicting something that has been won, or anyone in the family winning anything.

The truth is, I have already made entries in advanced, till December 4, EXCEPT this theme.

So I thought long and hard and waded through photos dating back from April 2008 till I reached August when we had a family field trip to Luneta and Fort Santiago as part of my twoyounger children’s homeschool lessons in history.

Was freedom won?

Gift-Giving

Christmas is fast approaching and everyone is almost starting to feel the frenzy.

From the home decorations to shopping for gifts to preparing the holiday calendar to squeeze in all the holiday parties that will be scheduled for the coming month.

The Weekly Question was conceptualized last Saturday as we were doing some rounds at the Greenhills Shopping Center.

We were looking at some items as possible gifts for the kids. Yes, we do not surprise them, we ask them what they want.

The younger ones were still undecided but I think they want a bike. My eldest daughter wants to have a new compact flash for her mobile phone for memory enhancement. She has been asking for this for months so she decided to just ask for it as a Christmas gift so we can finally give it to her 😀

So now I ask:

What kinds of gifts do you give to your loved ones during Christmas? How do you choose what to give?

My answer:

Employment Woes

Everyone is well aware of the credit crunch and the downturn of most countries all over the world, unless one has been living under a rock to notice this economic downtrend.

Here in the Philippines, a country considered third world, dollar remittances from its Overseas Filipino Workers stationed all over the world keep the economy afloat. Even with these coming in, employment problems hound its citizens like a proverbial dark shadow.

Even those who have graduated from college find it difficult to find employment opportunities that best fit their qualifications. They either end up going abroad in search of greener pastures or end up working the graveyard shift in business process outsourcing companies. Nothing bad about this though. Dreams can be on hold for the mean time. Read more »
