Do You Buy Online Discount Deals?

As I have written a few times, we are fans of online discount deals and we’ve bought several from these sites, mostly restaurant deals, haha!

We’ve gotten a few tech gadget deals too, like two MP3 players and a boom box. When I saw the wolf camera coupons, I though about getting a digicam for the children to use in school. Yes, even digital cameras are discounted in these online deals. If only I don’t have other financial obligations, I would definitely get one for them. And get some “beauty” deals for me too 😉

Construction Work

Summer is the peak season for construction. I can’t imagine myself supervising or overseeing even a minor construction/remodeling projects, much less a major one. I don’t think I have the energy to learn about different Tubing Benders, paint rollers, door handles, kinds of woods, or even decide on what shade of paint I want to see on walls.

The minor repairs I need to have done in my little work space haven’t even begun yet and as of now, it feels like I am losing whatever enthusiasm I had at the start of the year when I was making plans about it.

With Holy Week happening a few days from now, I think I really need to start planning about this because I would really need to jump start my plans.

Preparing for a Prom

I am looking at several silver tiara photos to get an idea what to get for my daughter to wear for her prom. She said they were asked to wear tiaras because they will be wearing formal gowns.

This prom is taking a lot of time to prepare, especially since they had to shell out an unusually big amount of money to pay for the venue. My daughter and her batch mates sold a LOT of raffle tickets to cover these expenses. We only shelled out less than a thousand pesos to cover everything.

Good thing we were able to borrow a gown which is exactly in the color she chose since each of them chose a color so there would be little duplication. Rehearsals every Saturdays for the cotillion dance also took up a lot of time and resources.

Prom will be next week and we are all excited.

Here is a checklist of what we needed to prepare for the prom:

  • payment for prom expenses (if this is a bit high like in the case of my daughter’s class, they should think of ways to raise funds for the expenses)

  • gowns for the ladies and suit for the guys. If you can rent, then rent. If you can borrow, borrow. If you can afford to buy your children a gown or a suit, then so be it.

  • for the ladies, canvass salons who do hair and makeup and set an appointment. You don’t want to go there with a line of ladies waiting to be made up because it so happened other schools are having their proms on the same day. If you can do the makeup on your young lady, then you save on some.

  • shoes. Buy or borrow comfortable shoes. If the young ladies are used to wearing 4-5inch heels as fashion dictates this trend, then so be it. But according to my daughter: She’d rather wear something that feels comfortable than wear something in fashion but will make her fall flat on her face and leave her with a broken heel.

  • canvass store that sell accessories that go best with the clothes like colored faux gems and stones, sterling silver jewelry, semi-precious stones. Or see what you have in your stash before you buy.

Proms are special events that young people experience. We have to help them make it less stressful by giving them all the help we can give.

Do Your Earn Anything in Facebook?

What have you earned when you clocked in 40 hours/month (give and take) when logged in Facebook? If you are logged in because you are a social media handler of a product or a company handling Facebook pages, then you are earning your keep. This will enable you to issue ach checks when needed.

But if you are just FB-ing to read updates, look at photos, watch videos and chat with your friends, you definitely are not earning a penny from it. As a blogger, I must say that I earn traffic when I share my posts/links in my FB page. Earning in this context means monetary benefits.

What is my gist? We spend a lot of time in FB which takes away time to be more productive, to do other tasks that need active physical participation. Logging out means we get to bond more with our loved ones rather than just saying we love spending time with them. Logging out means we get to spend quiet time with ourselves.

And by the way, we made some FB people millionaires.

Celebrating Christmas

I am guilty of not writing a Christmas post. Been very busy with house chores.

I remember a song I’ve always loved as a child: “When Christmas time is over and presents are away, don’t be sad… Keep Christmas with you all through the year…”

People put so much emphasis on the gifting (yes, let’s admit we rather like being given new tech toys, that new bag, north face jackets and even beauty products) and celebrating Christmas without really understanding why this is being celebrated in the first place.

Did you indulge too much during this Christmas? How have you celebrated Christmas?
