Love Your Job

With the global economy slowing down, people do not choose what kind of work they have anymore. This is so true especially to those living in the third world countries like ours.

While it is also true that some people are choosy with the kind of employment they have, others make do and are thankful that they have work that pays even if the pay is meager, even if it means being away from their families. Sigh.

Others find work beyond their qualifications while they weigh their options. Nothing wrong here.

Employment Woes

Everyone is well aware of the credit crunch and the downturn of most countries all over the world, unless one has been living under a rock to notice this economic downtrend.

Here in the Philippines, a country considered third world, dollar remittances from its Overseas Filipino Workers stationed all over the world keep the economy afloat. Even with these coming in, employment problems hound its citizens like a proverbial dark shadow.

Even those who have graduated from college find it difficult to find employment opportunities that best fit their qualifications. They either end up going abroad in search of greener pastures or end up working the graveyard shift in business process outsourcing companies. Nothing bad about this though. Dreams can be on hold for the mean time. Read more »

Pursuing Peace

I have joined Blog Blast for Peace last June 4, 2008. This was my post.

Below is an excerpt from that post:

Oppression. Killing. Famine. War. Terrorism. Environmental destruction. Natural disaster. Even family matters that seem trivial, all these and more, cause disturbance of peace. Through it all, maybe peace is a mindset, a lifestyle and a kind of wishful thinking. With all the negative things happening, can one really have a peaceful mindset?

I have again joined (even if I am late, again!) the November 6, 2008 Blog Blast for Peace hosted by Mimi Lenox.

The Bible is one of the best books to read about peace. It may have events where peoples and nations fought against each other, it is still full of hope, faith, love and peace.

Psalms 34:14 says “Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.”

Pursue? Yes, we pursue peace, not through war but through peaceful means.

Todos los Santos

Todos los Santos is known in English as All Saints Day. In Filipino this is called Undas.

This is a day when the saints are being remembered. This is mostly a Catholic celebration because other religious denominations do not have saints.

Saturday 6pm we attended the anticipated mass. Then we had dinner here. The priest specifically stressed that the misalette in the pews’ boxes are not to be used for these are prepared for the All Souls Day which is an entirely different celebration.

This is usually the day that the people flock to the cemeteries to visit their relatives who have crossed over (although November 2 or All Souls day would have been more appropriate). This is also a day when scary stories abound in households and/or gathering. This is also a day when people who can’t physically go to their dearly departed’s physical resting place, light candles in their homes.

Did you light a candle and say a prayer for your loved ones?

May Liwanag Nga Ba?

Its Thursday once again. Time for Litratong Pinoy which serves as my “weekly editorial” for this blog.

The theme for this week is LIWANAG meaning light or the absence of darkness.

I thought that this post’s title “May Liwanag Nga Ba” reflects best the global financial crunch that we are experiencing.

People are losing their jobs, their homes, and their bright futures are suddenly dimmed. The financial woes are not stopping.

People are altering their lifestyles to be able to survive with lesser resources and if possible, save some for the rainy days.

People are panicking, withdrawing their investments and bank deposits and putting these in what they think are “safe” places, away from the banks whose integrity they now doubt.

The worst is not in sight and if what the financial analysts say that this is just the beginning of a financial Armageddon, how would we know the answer to “Where do we go from here?”

I hope you have not felt that you have over-extended yourself during these times.
