Flat Line

I think I need a cell booster.

In our bedroom, one of the mobile phone’s signal does a flat line. In red. There are even times when the mobile phone feels hot when held, maybe because it is exerting too much effort to get signals. I don’t get any updates unless I bring it out of the bedroom. And the battery life lasts a whole day when it’s there. If the phone is elsewhere, the battery life lasts for two days.

But I’m not complaining because in a student’s home, where we have our lessons, there is absolutely NO SIGNAL for the three telcos. None.at.all.

I have to turn off my mobile phones because if I don’t the battery juice will run dry. I have to move to the living room in order to send sms if I need to.

Charging Problems

I need a new BP-6M for my “main” mobile phone. The battery I’m using seems to have swallowed a lot of juice: it has bulges.

I think I also need another battery for that other little mobile phone I use because the power doesn’t last till late afternoon – early evening, that time when I have to call my eldest daughter and my husband respectively.Frustrating I tell ya.

The hubby said he thinks I need several mobile telephone batteries because the third mobile unit has problems with charging. I have to remove the battery from the unit itself to charge which means I can’t send sms and receive calls while the battery is charging. Argh!

I want to have a new mobile phone but as it is, these three units am using right now still serve their purpose so I have to make do.

I know, when you’re a mom with three school kids, these “wants” take a back seat.

The End of Blogging is at Hand

Is it the end of blogging as Social Media and Microblogging sites gain momentous popularity?

Let me rephrase that, is blogging so 2006, said with emphasis on soooo and with rolling eyes? (this was the year I started blogging, LOL). Did people lose their passion for blogging?

Should I get my tumblr account then? I already have a Facebook page for my teacher blog and am thinking of doing another Facebook page for my other blogs. Nah, probably not yet but if blog traffic don’t improve, I might do that soon, if only it drives traffic to the blogs. Real traffic and not spam comments.

Years ago, when bloggers were still a source of honest-to-goodness-unbiased-and-not-given-freebies-and-tokens-to-create-buzz-marketing reviews of everything from restaurants, products, resorts, colon cleansing, spa, hotels and products and services, blogs were revered.

Now, people are more discerning and can sniff a real review from a not-so-real one. I’ve got people asking me about this because they’ve read the same contents in blog posts from one blog to another.

Netizens, especially the younger generation have too little attention span to read or write blogs so they love the 140 character status updates of Twitter -> to please follow me there: TeacherJulie (why, they even make this as a public announcement for friends to avoid spending on sms, 😀 ), the status update in Facebook and the reblogging and copy-pasting in Tumblr.

I’d stick to blogging. For now.

I Got a Bag-All-You-Can Scholastic Books

We went to the 31st Manila International Book Fair on its last day which meant yesterday. I was really hoping to still get a bag in the Scholastic Books booth for the “bag-all-you-can” promo.

And I did. Woohoo! My total bill was PhP7,740 but I only paid for PhP995.00. Now what bargain could be better than that? I didn’t get just any books, these are Scholastic Books that we definitely love. Just ask my Geronimo Stilton fans in the house 😉

I got teacher reference books, mostly worksheets for reading comprehension, vocabulary, math, and writing.

We got books from other bookstores like recipe books (there goes the effective weight loss program I plan to start), the Time Almanac for Kids 2010 and 2011 for the son, ghost stories for the older daughter, Chikiting storybooks from Vibal and a Thea Stilton book for the youngest child.

Crocs, Foursquare and Farmville Among Time’s 50 Worst Inventions

I know a lot of Crocs, Foursquare and Farmville fans/users will not like the inclusion of these three products in Time.com The 50 Worst Inventions.

I don’t have a pair of Crocs. I don’t want to broadcast my location to the whole world through Foursquare. I don’t waste time tending to my virtual farm.

Ok I admit, I still have a virtual farm but I have been a negligent farmer for a long time already. I’d rather do something about my age spots than plow and plant in my virtual farm.

Which reminds me, the house needs a thorough cleaning and I will get to that as soon as I am done cooking in my virtual restaurant  😀
