Family Vacation

Families take vacations during breaks in schedules. They either spend time at the beach or go up to places where the air is cool and clean. Some even go abroad.

As a family, we love going to out-of-town trips. We wish to spend a night or two when we do so but sadly, we haven’t had a vacation for several years now.

The last one that we spent out of town for several days happened three years ago. We did enjoy that one, swimming, exploring caves, hiking and just simply admiring nature. We didn’t even have our youngest daughter with us then because she was too young to be doing the things we did.

We always talk about doing that kind of vacation every year but we can’t simply because there is no one who will be left behind the mind the house while we are away.

We have been thinking of saving and investing in security systems for the house so that we can at least have a vacation. But then again, the dog is also a consideration when we are gone even if he is practically our security system for now 😉

I hope that we can really plan for the next vacation so that we can have a different kind of bonding time.

I sure need to have a break, even for a few days.

Baclayon Church

Baclayon Church in Baclayon, Bohol is said to be the oldest coral stone church in the region and one of the oldest churches in Asia. This is one of the main tourist destinations in the province of Bohol.

Behind the church is a museum where old artifacts and images of saints can be seen.

Beside the church is Immaculata High School founded by my late father-in-law who was a parish priest of the said church.

Angono Petroglyphs

We have been to the Angono Petroglyphs 2 years ago, me, my hubby and our son. Our two daughters were vacationing then with my parents so they weren’t able to go with us.

The Angono Petroglyhs is said to be the oldest known art in the Philippines, dating back 3000 B.C. There are different figures drawn there, a turtle being one of the most prominent figures that can be recognizable.

Presidential Decree 260 declared the site as a National Cultural Treasure.

It was not quite easy to go there. One has to go through a gated community where security guards will ask for the driver’s license to be left at the gate.

Then one has to walk a ways to be able get to the site.It was a bit of an effort for us because we got to the place at high noon and the kids were complaining 😀

(For those who are taking diet pills because they are a little heavy on the side , this calls for some exerted effort and would be a good way to sweat it out.)

Visitors have to go through a man-made tunnel that was carved through a hill.

Then register with the guard manning the mini-museum which used to house paintings but now just a few of the fossilized finds can be found.

Here is one photo of the site:

Yes, vandals do exist and they managed to write their names on the site, alongside the old drawings but I will not put the photo here and advertise their names. What a shame.

Breakfast Table

I have always been fascinated with cozy looking breakfast tables and have been wanting to have my own.

A small table for two in a room where the sunlight can easily shine through. Having my favorite breakfast of fresh fruits, warm toast and sweet coffee or a combination of fried rice, eggs and any viand we have categorized for breakfast while reading the morning papers would do well to start the day right.

This breakfast table may also face a garden, be it a flower garden or a vegetable garden. Breathing the fresh morning air can be very invigorating for me.

The breakfast table doesn’t have to be expensive because discount furniture is fine with me. I just need to tidy up the place by putting colorful table cloth and fresh flowers in a vase.

Would you want to have one too?

Semestral Break

A few weeks from now, semestral break will be here. I am sure a lot of families with school age children as well as college students looking forward to having a break are making their early plans.

So what are the things to prepare for a hassle-free semestral break?

  • First of all, make sure that the schedules of those having the break are free.
  • Look for the best hotel deals that will offer maximum enjoyment and relaxation without paying sky high fees.
  • Agree upon the destination early on and book early too. Booking tasks cover hotels and flight or bus schedules.
  • If the trip entails driving, make sure that the vehicle is in its best condition.
  • Make a doable list of the places to visit and go over the list before the trip. Having an alternate itinerary would be very helpful.
  • Pack the essentials you need a few days before the trip. Making a list would be helpful too.

Hmm…what have I forgotten?
