Be Careful

Rains are here to stay and with it, a lot of road accidents happen.

Slick roads, flood and low visibility are just a few reasons why road accidents happen. It would also be a big help if people take care of the nitty gritty details of car safety. Sure it’s good to focus on making your ride look great especially with nice looking grills or maybe chrome rims and maybe even dodge seat covers but focusing more on the care being road worthy on a downpour is more important.

A Safer Philippines for Ingat Pilipinas

Ingat Pilipinas has recently been launched to make people aware of road safety to avoid the loss of lives and properties through road accidents.

Ingat Pilipinas coalition is made up of the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (HPG), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and Safety Organization of the Philippines, (SOPI), in cooperation with Unilab and Biogesic.

According to the PNP-Highway Patrol Group, there are around 50 road accidents in the country everyday. 78% of the riding public depend on public transportation like buses, jeepneys, taxis, tricycles, pedicabs, the trains and more recently, the controversial “kuliglig”.

Reckless

Reckless.

That is what I can describe a big number of motorcycle drivers here in the country.

I have written entries about it here and here but I don’t get tired of saying these things that I have observed time and again, day after day:

  • these motorcycle drivers weave in and out of street lanes
  • they do not wear the proper protective gears like armor jacket, knee and shin protectors, back (and kidney) protectors and sturdy helmets
  • yes, they have helmets but they wear it on their arms/elbows, duh?
  • they have two or three passengers with them and that includes children

These protective gears are VERY expensive, I agree, but what could be more expensive than that but lives on the line?
