Quinceañera

If we live in Latin America, we would be celebrating Quinceañera for my elder daughter (and she would be requesting personalized gifts from us and her friends, LOL).

We are not party-givers though when we had only our elder daughter, we celebrate her birthday with a party every year. We celebrate the children’s birthdays quietly with a mass and a family dinner at the celebrant’s choice of restaurant. Sometimes I just cook special meals and we have dinner at home.

Lately I have been thinking if we are depriving our children the opportunity to have big celebrations for their birthdays, well, the big milestones at least like 7th birthday or 13th birthday. But then again, as long as they are not complaining and asking for it, we will continue with what we have been doing the past years. The budget for that party will just be for a more important obligation.

We Are Thankful

Today is a very special day for me and my son. Yes, we were battered by heavy rains and strong winds last night brought about by the storm. We didn’t have electricity at the height of the storm till I don’t know what time today. We went out in the morning and just came back an hour ago and yey! electricity has been restored and we have net connection.

Water services is still a problem though since we haven’t had a drop since Sunday. Boo! Maynilad.

Anyway, we had so much on our plate today, literally since we ate out for lunch, ate out for dinner and brought home a cake.

This is one day that I think I really need those things that will not make me look like a peach (and not think about the side effects of diet pills) because this day was all about munching. And more munching.

More than the munching, we are thankful that we have survived another year stronger, healthier and happier despite the odds we face day by day.

Thank you Lord for my family. I love you son 🙂

Clean as You Go

As I wait for the other family members to finish getting ready so we could go out and finish our weekend tasks (buying groceries, haircut, facial appointment for the blackheads) and Sunday mass obligation, I patter here and there tidying up.

Clean as you go is a mantra that people should practice. While the food is simmering and waiting to be cooked, wipe the kitchen counters. While the clothes are in the washer, there are a hundred more things waiting to be done and fixed.

Our home is far from being considered clean and neat. I just convince myself that as long as we have warm home-cooked food on the table, the children have clean and ironed uniforms for school plus have done their homeworks and projects, we have clean clothes in the closet and we can find where the house keys are, then we are good.

I really hope I will not stress myself out by saying:  “I need to clean out the extra closets and sort the unused clothes.” or “I have to remove all the books in the library and discard those that I can live without.” 😀

There is this interesting video: “How to Tidy Up in 15 Minutes“. Very helpful.

Balik Eskwela

back to school

Aga namin no?
