Electronic Flooding

Electronic flooding is a term (I think I read this term somewhere) applicable for a lot of people and you could be one of them. How?

Are you one of those who, upon waking up, check their emails first or go online to read about the latest happening worldwide?

Do you eat breakfast or lunch or dinner or all these meals with your mobile phone or netbook turned on beside your plate?

Must you know who commented or what comments came in your posted status update in your favorite social networking sites?

If you said “yes” to these, then you are definitely hooked on your gadgets.

Yes, not only do you accumulate these plethora of electronics but you are hooked to these like these are your lifeline. And when you have been away from your gadget for several minutes, you feel like everything will go wrong and the sky would fall down on you. An exaggeration of course but then again, this could be true.

When was the last time you ever finished a book? A real book?

When was the last time you sent and received a hand-written letter? When was the last time you turned off your gadget to concentrate on playing with your child(ren) and spending real bonding with them?

Electronic flooding makes the brain lose focus. Read on and see what it does to your brain. And mine too.

Third Party Apps in Facebook

Annoyed with those third party apps in Facebook? Yes, these are your friends’ game scores, newly acquired farm necessities, flowers, gifts, pillows, relatives, calendars, pokes and a list so long I could not possibly name a tenth of.

Oh, here is a page that lists down these third party apps in Facebook.

Ok, I admit, I used to take quizzes and take on challenges but I rarely publish my results. There.

Anyway…

Built to work with existing operating systems third party applications are programs made by or written by people who are not the provider of the operating system.

When I see one appearing on my time line, I click HIDE. I don’t want a cluttered timeline. I am more interested in updates than in scores, thank you very much.

I have also written before that contacts who will tag me with products they are selling would be “marked” and be warned. Not even neutrogena skin id reviews and a free tube will make me change my mind about not hiding these updates.

Are you getting annoyed with these third party apps in Facebook? What are these apps that get in your nerves?

Check Your Privacy Settings

Google Buzz definitely stirred a lot of controversies since the day it came into existence.

Ok, I admit, I was excited at first but when I see names of people appearing in my Google mail, responding to the posts of some of those I’m following, I tweaked the privacy settings and the sites connected to me to give me a sense of (a little) security from being exposed to people I do not know.

Not that I feel I should have taken diet pills before my photos are seen ( 😀 ) but you know, not all the people in your mailing list are people that you exactly want to share personal info with.

There are contacts that I do not personally know in my mailing list such as there are people I come in contact with in social networking sites that I do not personally know too. Even if I share common friends with them it does not necessarily mean that they are my friends already.

Like with Facebook, before the change in privacy settings took place, I went the super private way, by being not searchable by people I would not ask to be a contact in the first place. I just did a several changes in the privacy setting which I discussed in this post after they made searching for friends easier.

What about you? Have you checked your privacy settings lately?

How to Look Busy at Work Part 2

Part 2 of How to Look Busy at Work

Keeping yourself preoccupied with other tasks that are not work-related for a whole day or several days is a big no-no. You need to distribute the times you will find time to chat with your friend, or update your profile on you social networking site, if these sites are allowed.

If these are not allowed, uses a proxy to surf the net which you can get for free to help you avoid detection.

Or, have your own wi-fi enabled mobile phone (if there is wi-fi) or netbook (with your own mobile connectivity) where you can check sites that matters most to you (yes, like that treatment for acne site your little sister is pestering you about).

Have props. If you are just going to the bathroom, or have a smoke in the smoking lounge, or visit a friend in another department, bring something with you, like a clipboard or a folder with documents inside to give the impression that you are busy.

Take note of the way you encode. Encoding emails make people encode faster, not unlike when encoding reports, so careful pecking of the keys should be done to ensure the words are being thought about and deliberated.

Keeping busy at work even if one is not actually busy is not an easy task but with time and practice, these things get polished.

Just make sure you deliver what needs to be delivered or else, you would be really busy doing a lot of things.

Or be out of job for slacking too much while on the job.

2010 Project 365

I am doing 2010 Project 365 here.

As I have written in the about page of Photo Stories:

I am not concerned with highfalutin photography terms nor do I aim to take a picture perfect photo, I just want to have fun capturing images and telling the stories behind such images.
