Mini Shell Eco-Marathon Car
A week and a half ago, we went to visit the 2014 Shell Eco-Marathon for half a day of fun and learning new things.
This is a photo of my husband’s hands (L) and my son’s hands (R) starting to assemble the son’s mini-SEM car which runs on saltwater fuel. Cool, I know.
I challenged the son to try to make his own mini-car and I would love to take him to a hardware store to get the tools and materials he would need. Yes, that is a store I prefer going and looking at this website gives me ideas on what to see whenever I have the chance to go to one.

How to prepare for a super typhoon:
- Listen to all the warnings and if your area is going to e hit real hard, do preemptive evacuation immediately. Loss and damage to properties is not what you need to be concerned with but the possible loss of lives.
- It will do you good if you listened and participated in disaster drills being done in the workplace or school.
- Prepare a survival kit for you and your family as you also secure important documents and papers.

SIDCOR Sunday Market
Sharing an article I wrote about SIDCOR Sunday Market
Weekend Markets seem to be sprouting like mushrooms in key cities and distinct venues around Metro Manila. Most of these weekend market venues are fairly new. One of the few that has survived for more than a decade amidst several changes of venue is the SIDCOR Sunday Market.
Those who want to make the best of their SIDCOR Sunday market experience may find the following tips useful:
- Arrive early not just to secure a parking space but to avoid the heat of the sun.
- Try to eat a little breakfast because, with so much cooked food around, you might be tempted to eat something that will not sit well on an empty stomach.
- Bring enough eco-bags for your purchases. Have a separate bag for the wet purchases like fish and meat and another for the dry food like fruits and vegetables. If you plan to buy a lot, bring a stroller for your eco-bags. You’d be surprised how many patrons lug these strollers with them while going around.
- If at first you tend to have a hard time choosing who among the merchants you will buy stuff from, choose the friendliest of the lot or the one who will reduce the price even for a fraction. The prices of the goods being sold are almost the same.

Small Businesses
Based on my observation, there are some people who usually do not look highly on people who own and run a “small business”. Those who usually do are the ones who go to a fancy office wearing fancy clothes and getting their salaries via the ATM. On the other hand, they grapple with traffic on the road, face-off at the MRT/LRT during rush hours and constantly tugging between having to buy that new pair of fashionable shoes versus just paying the latest credit card bill first.
Those with small businesses however, are not any different from the corporate slaves. They too have their shares of struggles: too little time to do other matters because all the time available is spent tending the small business and making it big later on, headache-inducing tasks of balancing business-related matters, and a host of others things that may curb the enthusiasm to continue what is being done and just give everything up.
Here are a few small business ideas that can mean a good ROI if handled properly, meaning using the right approach, the proper timing, the proper venue and the right attitude:
- meat processing like tocino, longganisa, relleno, products but make sure that you passed the proper health inspection licenses
- carinderia or food delivery for offices if you love cooking
- massage and nail spa places
- specialized stationery and other paper-related crafts
- sewing special request clothes, especially in the time where cosplay is “in”
- souvenir thingamajigs
- flower arrangements
- party needs
There are a lot more small business ideas out there, just be sure you attend the proper training, get the proper licenses and certificates and put your heart in what you want to accomplish and you are good to start.
