Education is a Right

“Education is something I can give an all-out support for all of you.” I always tell that to my children. Then I tell them that education or rather, a degree is something that is truly theirs to keep and put to good use.

This topic on education brings a sentimental tug to my heart not only because we work hard to provide them the best education we can afford but also because it feels that being educated in good schools seems like a privilege, rather than a right. Yes, this is how I feel especially when I see reports of crowded classrooms, teachers, books and classrooms shortage and a host of other school-related problems that cause students to just drop out of school rather than be encouraged to stay and learn.

I dream of one day seeing school-aged Filipino children learning new things and having opportunities to experience what life has to offer. I envision older students whose families can’t afford to send them to universities elsewhere be virtually enrolled through online college degrees programs.

I can dream, can I?

Facebook New Timeline

Last week, FB friends were all raving (and maybe some were ranting) about the mandatory thing of having Facebook Timeline.

I didn’t complain because I had my Facebook Timeline back in September.

Here is an interesting article to know more about what you need to know about the Facebook timeline.I just wish people would take time to know about the privacy setting so their photos are not seen by people who don’t know them.

And yes,  we were born in the year ____ and Facebook happened. Isn’t that fun? 😛

Cozy Home

Last month, the interior designer BIL and wife had their newly remodeled unit (at the third floor of an adjacent 4-door studio type units beside the family’s main house) blessed. We attended the housewarming and was surprised at how the place looked so much different. I used to work in this part of the in-laws’ place a few years back.

BIL's living room

It was cozy in the unit. It had one bedroom since they didn’t use the available room (one where I used with my students) and just had it for storage. Maybe when they have their own child they will use that spare room. No room for a clawfoot tub yet in their bathroom which is probably what the BIL’s clients love to have in their own homes.

I know my kids would love to have a tub in our bathrooms too but right now, that is not an option 😉

What I like about their new home aside from being cozy is the simplicity and being clutter-free. If there’s a baby, I’m sure a lot will change, 😀

Upping the Security

With the hubby recently involved with installing cctv cameras in home and offices (as well as public places) I’ve actually asked him if they have tried installing other things regarding upping the security protocol.

I even asked if they’ve been canvassing metal detectors on sale since I went with him one time to look at cctv cameras.

The need to make the surroundings secure is one of the things we have to do because of the rising crime that involves a lot of petty theft. Just last Saturday the car’s side mirror was taken by a thief while it was parked in front of the house. We’re guessing that it was during the heavy downpour that the thief came. Now there’s no side mirror and the mechanism it needs to move is also broken.

And the village is supposed to be secured and guarded. Hmph.

Sulat-Kamay
