Price Watch: Glad Press ‘n Seal

Two weeks ago when we needed to buy groceries, our favorite supermarket had lines of people that go till between the aisles. The husband decided to go to a nearby supermarket for the immediate supplies (read: food to be cooked) we need.

I didn’t want to but between choosing to cook nothing versus buying there, the lack of food won over my resolve to not buy from that supermarket. Why? because being a price watcher, I know that their prices are outrageous.

Here is a sample:

BOYSEN KNOxOUT : Project EDSA

Boysen KNOxOUT Air-cleaning paint has done it again.

Boysen KNOxOUT paints were used in the 4th installment of Boysen KNOxOUT Project EDSA at the Taft Station of the MRT and LRT. Click here for a map of the place.

Boysen KNOxOUT Project EDSA

Commissioned to do a 1000 sqm artwork was Singapore-born and London-based artist Erika Tan. The artwork using Boysen KNOxOUT air cleaning paints is expected to clean out toxic noxious fumes from around 8000 vehicles that ply the area on a day to day basis.

Pastel and white KNOxOUT paints were used and the artwork was in the form of the pollution statistics: bar charts, graphical lines, and comparative data were “painted” on the pillars along EDSA/Tramo.

Erika Tan

Taking the lead from the EDSA/Boysen project itself, I wanted to approach the work in the spirit of a merging of visual and the transformation,” noted Erika. “As we visually transform an area thick with commuters and their fumes, we also through the technology of paint, clean it.”

Some things to note regarding the pollution in Metro Manila:

  • In Metro Manila alone, air pollution causes 14 avoidable deaths per day (about 5000 premature deaths a year, as tabulated by the World Bank and the DENR).
  • The numbers seem to be steadily increasing—in 2008, the WHO Burden of Disease said that deaths attributable to air pollution rose up to 11,012.
  • This statistic, alongside Pollution Levels in Metro Manila Cities (June 2006-2008), Sectoral emissions of CO2 emissions from fuel combustion (2002), Increase in vehicle registrations in the Philippines (1983-2009) and Estimates of health impact and costs in four cities for 2010 Data (Metro Manila, Davao, Cebu, Baguio) were some of the data sources used by Erika.

Snickers Just Got Smaller

I feel shortchanged with this Snickers bar. Though someone pointed out that there is a Snickers with a size between the regular one and the bite size, I don’t think this is it because I paid a price equivalent to the regularly sized one.

Snickers, what happened?

Photo first posted here.

Besides, if I wanted a smaller one, I would have gotten a bag but this didn’t come from a bag but from a box with similarly sized wrapper.

Disappointed because there should have been an extra bite somewhere there 😉

California Berry Ice Ice Baby

Sometime ago, I purchased California Berry’s Ice Ice Baby vouchers for the family.

I know we had these yummy desserts a long time ago, but I’m just blogging about it now.

Anyway, the kids enjoyed the idea of using the vouchers so much so I got another set of vouchers earlier this month. LOL.

gummy bears

Gummy bears and blueberries. Don’t ask, lol.

oreo

Oreo bits and shaved ice ala cookies and cream.

kiwi

Banana and kiwi slices.

There are so many kinds of vouchers to be bought online from restaurant vouchers (we’ve had a few of these) to vacation packages (no thanks), car cleaning services (we availed of this before too), cakes (I just ordered one a few weeks ago), “beauty procedures” (ahem!) and gadgets (we did too and had ordered another one last night). I wonder what they’ll think of next time: motorhome repair, leaky roof repair, gardening services or home-based pet grooming services?

I saw a house-cleaning services in one of the sites. I think I need more than one voucher, LOL.

Keeping Small Businesses Afloat

Small businesses can thrive because of their satisfied clients’ recommendation and word-of-mouth advertising. On the other hand, these small businesses will also have to deal with clients’ bad-mouthing them through online forums and blogposts especially when these customers were unsatisfied with their services.

After all those hard work, expenses with advertising, display banner stands, networking online and offline, being extra nice to people and working long hours only to be destroyed by a post or a tweet. That’s.so.sad.

I’m not sure if I like the way online communities “talk” about some topics, whether in a good light or otherwise. Some people post things online that go viral and make things worse instead of having two conflicting ideas meet in the middle. The kuyog or online mob mentality is also something which no one wants to be at the receiving end.

I guess, it has to be a two-way street, don’t join online mob mentality so you won’t be the subject of one.

Of course, there’s no stopping others saying what they think and stating their opinions but in doing so, WE should proceed with caution lest we hurt others without knowing what the real score is all about.
