Urban Jungle

If only I have the power to travel back in time, I would do so.

I would like to see how these familiar places where we usually go looked like decades ago sans the metal buildings and artificial natural environment.

The other day, hubby and I talked about how the place where we live looked like when they first lived there in the early 80s.

He said the river was clear and there are so  many open spaces where they can frolic.

Now the river is full of floating trash that people fish for trash and not trout. The river banks are lined up with informal settlers‘ homes and yes, there have been reports of accidents where small children fall into the river.

Their children too have made the streets their playground. Heh.

I’m not exaggerating.

Paano Na?

The theme for this week’s Litratong Pinoy is golden.

I thought about doing something different with this entry and related this to age. Yes, the golden age which we probably do not want to celebrate yet.

My idea was to post photos of people well into their 50’s who still work hard to support their families. Nothing bad here but to those who are older? How many times have we heard about a grandpa or a grandma with their frail bodies and brittle bones working not just to support their able-bodied children but also their grandchildren? We sympathize with them, sometimes we seethe with anger why they allow this to happen.

Missing Manhole Covers

It is a common sight to see uncovered manholes and unfortunate event to some, to be sucked fall into an open one, here in the Philippines. This particularly happen here in Mega Manila.

Now this piece of news is interesting. In Philadelphia (you know, the city of brotherly love), people are being sucked into manholes, just like what is happening here.

No, it is not them aliens doing these things but its them again, manholes without covers.

Manhole covers are being stolen to be sold as scrap metals.

And it is not just in Philadelphia that these things happen.

These happen too in New York, Phoenix, Cleveland, Memphis, Miami.

Who knows, there are probably a lot more cities though these haven’t caught some attention yet from the media.
