Composting 101

I have talked about wanting to go back to backyard gardening here. This has been fueled more when we recently went on a field trip to a nearby ecology center and the proper way of composting, among other topics, was discussed.

The kids were made to dig for worms in compost pits. Ewww, I know but these worms are necessary to keep the garden in great shape. In fact, one can purchase these worms in gardening stores.

I looked up videos online to see how composting is done. I also came upon an interesting compost tumbler for composting.

Now, if you have a small space for a compost pit, here was what the lecturer told us: get pots (preferably clay pots) with a little garden soil in it. Put fruit and vegetable peelings, leftover food, dried leaves on top of the soil and cover with soil. Do this over and over until the soil and the other filings are mixed.

A good compost helps in fertilizing the soil to make the garden healthy. If you have a Starbucks branch near you, ask for free used coffee grounds for your garden.

How to Hide Your Tagged Photos in Facebook

Friends and family love to tag you in photos taken with them when they post these photos in Facebook’s albums.

But when embarrassing photos come out for everyone to ogle at and talk about, you tell yourself, “Oh nooooo!!!!”

So you want to hide these tagged photos especially that one where it looks like you need the best acne treatment but don’t know how?

Here’s how:

  • Go to the clickable “Settings” on the top right of your Facebook page
  • Click the “Privacy Settings” when the menu drops down
  • Click on “Profile Information” and you will see a lot of choices like About Me, Personal Info, Birthday, etc
  • Scroll down till you reach “Photos and Videos of Me” Photos and videos you’ve been tagged in

facebook

  • Click that button and choose your preference whether you want “everyone”, “friends of friends”, “only friends” and “custom”
  • Custom setting will let you choose “Only Me”

So there. No need to un-tag your tagged photos nor have everyone see you in your third grade photo 😀

Reading About Health Concerns

A week into the new year had me reading about healthy eating, fitness and healthy living. I am sure I am not the only one doing this whenever new year comes 😀

Following the death of our granduncle who had lung-related health issues and the passing away of a family friend’s mom due to kidney problems made me want to read on how to best deal with these. So far I have read about asthma and allergy treatments, about cough and colds treatments,  as well as eye-related issues.

I know we can not prevent certain health conditions from invading our system but it pays to know about some important health concerns.

Adult ADHD

ADHD is said to be most common in children. Behavior modification, (some who take) medication, environmental modifications and special education and/or mainstreaming (to some) are positive ways to help these children cope and adjust with their conditions.

ADHD continues well into adulthood for most of these children diagnosed with the condition. And like how these conditions and the symptoms were dealt with in childhood would probably the same or has a lesser or more intervention needed like having a life coach, taking regular medications like CONCERTA Adult ADHD Medication and/or other behavior intervention programs.

What are some of the most common symptoms to look out for with adults who may have ADHD ?

  • difficulty with executive functioning
  • difficulty initiating/completing tasks
  • lacks motivation or very highly motivated but accomplishes less
  • has difficulty holding on to the current job/work
  • always on the go
  • easily bored or chooses highly stimulating work

As in everything else, when in doubt, consult with a doctor. Which one? A psychologist, a psychiatrist or a neurologist. A licensed counselor would also be a great help.
