Pula = Katapangan

The theme for this week’s Litratong Pinoy is RED.

There are so many interpretations for the color red:  love, hatred, blood, bravery and prosperity. It may also symbolize energy, communism, heat and arrogance. Some even say that red is the color of the devil.

For me, red for bravery is what we need right now. We need this not because we have to battle foreign oppressors like our ancestors but to battle the many hardships we are currently experiencing: financial crisis, lack of political trust and just about any daily struggles that should have been easy but tend to be otherwise.

Thoughts for 2008

2008 was a special year for me.

The children had less sickness and we all learned a lot about each other as we spend more time at home due to gas price increase. Now that the prices are lower, we resume going back to our Sunday activities.

There are so many things to be thankful for, be these negative or positive.

I have just written a while ago,

being grateful is a big thing, because when you are, you still see these things as blessing and life lessons to be learned

Career-wise was still the same and if truth be told, I have had some painful moments to keep me company but I will not dwell on these moments.

I am thinking of taking some risks since I feel I have been complacent for long.

My online activities became better. I have created two more blogs including this one where I was able to write topics that may not interest others but I have written things that came from my heart.

Virtual friends became good personal friends with a common goal: to help other mothers like us in the never-ending quest to become better at what we do.

Christmas Vacation

Yeah, Christmas vacation is extra long this year. From December 25th till January 24th.

Another yeah, this is absurd.

The banks are closed too, except for some who saw fit to conduct business. I am also concerned about the production side. How would we fare with the supplies especially when the holidays “demand” we get these for the food to be had? Companies are required to pay these workers more which will further give them more cost that what is necessary. Oh well, their problem, not mine.

Sure, bonding time with family is going to be reinforced. But vacation time means:

Jingle Bells

“Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way…”

These are what we usually hear the carolers sing. Happy songs, they almost invite the listeners to join in the fun, making us remember that Christmas is near.

Last weekend when we went to The Fort, we saw several wonderfully dressed and happy people singing carols and greeting people “Merry Christmas” It sure felt great to see them.

There are my two younger children with Julian a bit apprehensive.

But do you know that there is another face to this happy caroling?

Thinking of a photo that will go with this week’s theme was very difficult for me.

First because there was no photo in our archives depicting something that has been won, or anyone in the family winning anything.

The truth is, I have already made entries in advanced, till December 4, EXCEPT this theme.

So I thought long and hard and waded through photos dating back from April 2008 till I reached August when we had a family field trip to Luneta and Fort Santiago as part of my twoyounger children’s homeschool lessons in history.

Was freedom won?
