Sunday Mornings at UP Diliman

weekendsnaphot_button1.gif

Sunday mornings at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City is bustling with activities. Not that there are classes but the activities show people having fun and relaxing in an atmosphere of quiet among majestic trees.

Biking people, walking people and picnicking people can be found. Guy with red shirt on the bike is my hubby.

Aside from that, people engage in different sports like badminton, frisbee throwing, soccer, skateboarding, and tennis. There are tai chi groups too and other local sports like the arnis.

There are also those who fly kites, depending on the weather.

Most people take walks and runs or jogs. They seem to be enjoying these activities and most have earphones plugged to their ears to help them get in the mood. If these walking and running are done on a daily basis, maybe there is no need for Ephedrasil hardcore to burn those fats, if they religiously do these fitness regimen. That includes me too.

There are lots of families that can be seen here, enjoying time to be together.

This is a good place to unwind and just enjoy nature and quiet.

Cars in the City

Having a car is a necessity if one lives in the city and the workplace is not easily accessible to the home front.

On the other hand, it can also be a liability because there are just so many payments, services and purchases one has to make in order to keep a car up and running. Sometimes, one feels he is better off not having a car at all especially when the bills pile up.

For one, car payments. The usual scheme for new car owners getting a brand-new car is that auto insurance is included when they purchase a car. Better have this handy especially when one does city driving.

What about engine troubles, car repairs, paint jobs, car wash, and audio gadgets? The list is just endless about motoring trends.

To know the latest in motoring trends, we try to go to car shows, once or maybe twice a year.

There is just something about ogling at cars, whether brand new like this Nissan 350z below,

or a car that has been brand-new years ago but has been modified or “set-up” according to my son, like one of my son’s favorite cars, the Nissan Sylvia or S14, that make one feels good, even if there was no purchase made 🙂

In My Backpack

I have written about my new camera in my other blog. When we got this new camera yesterday, I was so excited I sneaked a few minutes from work and took some photo which can be seen here.

After work, I had to take a cab home because my hubby has to go attend an exhibit. He told me to leave my things in their house (this is where I work Fridays and Saturdays) and he will just get them when he goes home.

But li’l ole me can’t just leave my things there. I have to bring my things home with me. I put everything in my backpack and started walking towards the spot where I can get a ride to take a cab.

When I got in the tricycle (a motorcycle with something like a metal cage with a passenger seat attached on its side) I had to remove my backpack. I was worried the ride may damage my new camera.

I put my new camera in the backpack, along with my laptop. And because it doesn’t have any case for protection yet, I was worried about it getting “hurt” or damaged.

Hubby said we need to get a case for this bulky thing and he started rattling off some brand names. I thought, why not something like Rimowa products, just in case we have to put our things in just one case.

Anyway, I got home without getting some food supplies because I can’t risk leaving my backpack with the baggage counter. No way. So I just had some takeout food for the kids.

I took a lot of photos of the kids (as if I don’t have tons of their photos) and some things around the house.

I even went outside and tested a shot like this:

Let me try it another time, still in my position, while fiddling with the zoom button:

Oh, I am so loving this.

Dalampasigan

litratongpinoy5.gif

The theme for this week’s Litratong Pinoy is seashore. We all know that the Philippines is surrounded by water. We also know that this is the primary selling point of the tourism industry in luring tourists to visit the country. How do we take care of our seas and seashore?

Do we have to have legislation just to guide us how to take care of our seas? Or do we voluntarily do these taking care ourselves.

Machineries that pollute the waters. Mga makinang nagdudulot ng pulosyon sa tubig.

My only wish is to see clear, clean blue waters which can give us joy as well as nourishment. Ang tanging hiling ko ay makakita ng malinaw, malinis at bughaw na tubig na siya ding nakapagbibigay sa atin kasiyahan pati na din ng mga pagkaing-dagat.

Yacon, Apple of the Earth

Last Sunday, when we went to Market One Sunday Market, I chanced upon some root crops being sold. I thought it was “kamoteng kahoy” or cassava and I thought about buying several pieces. The salesperson told me it is in fact yacon. And I asked what it was again. She told me it is called yacon and it is good for those who are likely to suffer diabetes.

Hmm…I have heard about this a few months back from a student’s mom who buys the same root crop in the same place.

I asked the salesperson what it tastes like and she said it tastes like “singkamas” or what is erroneously referred to as turnips. Singkamas is in fact called jicama (pachyrhizus erosus). I got curious since I love munching on this singkamas.

I got one piece only. It was a bit expensive, compared to singkamas which can be bought for PhP25.00 for a bunch of 5-6 pieces. The one piece I got was PhP40.00(almost USD1.00).

I peeled the yacon around noon today. And took photos of the sliced flesh.

After a while, I noticed that the flesh discolored. I didn’t know that discoloration happens the flesh has been exposed to air, like apples and eggplants.

I tasted one piece and it tasted good. Sweetish, like a part apple, a part jicama and a part pear. So that is why it is also called the Apple of the Earth. It is also dubbed as the Healing Crop.

I didn’t want to eat it as it is so I thought about making a salad and putting some pieces which I sliced in strips. This was what I got:
