Bonifacio High Street at Night

Saturday was spent having sessions with my enrichment students from 8am till 5pm. Sunday was spent staying in except for mass during the early evening.

When my husband and children came to pick me up around 5pm, I was so hungry that we went directly to a restaurant and didn’t have time to go to church for the anticipated mass because it was a bit late for that.

We decided to go to Market! Market! so that I could get some books at the weekend book sale of a popular local bookstore chain.

I got a number of books to be given as gifts. Yes, bargain books as low as PhP20, like the earlier ones I got. Of course, this was in line with my keeping a frugal Christmas 😀

Anyway, a night stroll at Bonifaco High Street and Serendra was a delight! We did have some problems with the parking though, everywhere was full. Course, that being a Saturday night.

There were so many colors to see at night. The place is huge with open spaces where children (and pets) can move about.

Looking for Baked Goodies Recipes

I am on the lookout for the perfect chocolate chip cookies recipe or the perfect fudge recipe.

Why? I plan to give these away to relatives and friends.

Because I am determined to practice “Frugal Christmas” though of course, because I have forgotten the baking lessons I have had eons ago, I may even be spending more than I care to if my baking forays will end up as failures.

Not to mention getting those necessary equipments for these experiments mean another extra dip in my already dwindling resources, I am still determined to do these and not shop for other gifts besides those for my students.

Below is something I made that comes from a recipe for blueberry muffins but I decided to put these in mini loaf pans so the kids can have slices instead of muffins. Turned out ok, I guess since they ate everything. Or maybe they were just hungry.

If these are not too good to give away, if they are edible at least and not life-threatening ( 😀 ), my kids would be more than willing to have these for themselves. I know how they loved baked goodies.

For those people I know who are eternally looking for the best fat burner, hah, get ready to eat these baked goodies once I perfect the procedure. As if.

Frugal Christmas: Personalized Gift Tags

Over at the FilipinoMomBlog.com, we have a started a meme called Fab Holiday Finds in an anything goes theme for the first week.

In this blog, I thought of follow-up posts to my entries in the meme.

Why? I plan to feature those things that I plan to do as a way of practicing a Frugal Christmas without skimping on quality.

Here is one idea: Personalized Christmas Gift Tags.

Click here for the cost and materials. Scrap booking embellishments are great to use with these ones.

Keeping Clean

One of the most important things we mothers want to achieve is to keep the home clean and worry-free.

Why so? Because germs have no “right” to be in places where they can cause harm to people, especially children.

Here are some basic materials and steps that homemakers need to keep the sanctuary called “home” clean and safe:

  • Brooms and dust pans, mops, rags, dust cleaner, scrubs and brushes. Discarded toothbrushes are also helpful.
  • Mold killers as well as mildew killers.  Vinegar and citrus juice as nontoxic alternatives.
  • Baking soda for cleaning counter tops as well as eliminating odors in laundry.
  • A long stick broom for reaching the ceilings to get rid of unwanted cobwebs.
  • Keep those plastic grocery bags to be used as lining to trash cans.
  • Separate the trash according to characteristics: wet (fruit and vegetable peelings) dry (boxes) and recyclables (galls and plastic bottles, tin cans and other materials made of plastic).

One does not need to do a thorough cleaning up everyday, a few minutes spent on cleaning will come a long way.

TV Viewing Habits

TV viewing mostly happen when we watch the news or a favorite (or two) mini-series during prime time.

So what do we watch?

The children love to watch DVDs and so do my husband and I.

I prefer to watch TV series on DVD and so does my husband.

The children though love to watch movies from the latest releases like Kung-Fu Panda and Wall-E to some of the movies that were released a few decades back like Lion King, Lady and the Tramp and even Mary Poppins.

Imagine how the tv stand looks like with all those DVDs scattered. I always tell the children to pack these things back in the albums where these belong but there are times when they do not do so.

Not having a cable connection at home means we are cheap we are able to cut on the children’s TV viewing time. They do have some cartoon shows to watch like their favorite anime shows or that sponge who lives n Bikini Bottom AND educational shows featuring animals, geography, plants and science.

What is your favorite television show?
